I did it. I googled myself. Yes, I know, not the thing to discuss in polite company, but we’ve all been sharing so much, I know you’ll listen and not judge me… right? Ok, so I have to say, I’ve learned that…. I really am boring. I do have one scientific article out there, but I am disappointed to see another missing. I’ve dug up the link: An ecological life support system for fish for 100-day experiments (suitability for future space tests). And I would appreciate some hits; thanks in advance.
But seriously, nothing much out there. Sure, you can see that I’ve moved around a lot, but that is no secret. You can tell what I’ve reviewed on Amazon… I stand by my popcorn maker still, by the way. My Facebook profile image popped up on Pipl. There are a couple errors out
there. For example, I’m not a CMST Coordinator for UMUC, nor do I know what that is, though I a have been adjunct faculty for UMUC for years. And I’m no longer the contact for Laurelhurst Elementary’s Passport Club. But most of it is correct, such as I did really publish a letter in the Oregonian awhile back.
I didn’t see anything that I should rush and change because, as I mentioned, I’m boring.
Should teacher’s be held to community standards? Only within limits. Sure, they shouldn’t be making spectacle that students’ will be faced with, even if they are off hours. But artists should be able to do some edgy stuff, our educated community members should not be discouraged from civil political discourse and grown adults should be able to go out and have a normal social life. The article, and the news, provide examples of teachers being denied their basic rights of expression, or being punished for actions predating their teaching posts that were legal and even reasonable. Specifically, I’m thinking of the artists who had nude content from artistic work. As a parent, I’d be glad to have an artist with some edgy stuff teaching my kids, as long as they are clear that other forms of artistic exploration are appropriate as well, especially for minors!
Long ago I was warned to not put anything online that I wouldn’t write on the back of a postcard. I’m sticking with that advice for now.
Love the advice! It is interesting to hear about your opinion as a parent. We don't get to ask parents questions like these very often. I appreciate your honesty with that piece. You are not boring!!
